COMPANY BACKGROUND

Shortland Horne was established in 1995 with the aim of being a truly multi-disciplined company.

Our founders wanted to ensure the company had all the skills required to be involved in mixed used schemes, as well as the individual components of any successful agency.

They felt that mixed use schemes would play an increasing part in property development and that many practises lacked the infrastructure and expertise to deal with all elements of such projects. More than fifteen years later, we believe we have succeeded in that aim.

Shortland Horne is a thriving company with four offices through Coventry and Leamington Spa, although we operate nationwide for large institutions, property companies and many private investors. We have a wide range of expertise which allows us to offer a full spectrum of services to all sectors of the property industry.

We have a specialist new homes department – the largest in the area – a well-respected commercial team, a land and development arm and a very successful residential sales operation including Premier & County Homes. And that initial aim of becoming involved in all aspects of mixed use schemes has paid dividends. We are a key player in the regeneration of Coventry having advised on schemes such as Belgrade Plaza, Priory Place, and Electric Wharf as well as being the property advisers to the Ricoh Arena.

Martin & Co is the largest letting and property management franchise business in the UK, with a network of 192 offices. The company has a very strong high-street and online presence and is nationally acknowledged for its award-winning service.

As with many stories, though, the start of ours is a humble one. In 1993, our chairman Richard Martin was on holiday in Portugal when he started reading a book about McDonald’s, the most famous franchise in the world. After completing it he realised that the best way to forge a successful franchise brand was to depend upon rigid consistency.

Richard envisioned a nationwide network of offices under one brand. They would all operate to the same quality standards, but also be independently-run by estate agents with expert knowledge of their local market – a recipe for success.

So, after eight years in trading, Richard set up Martin & Co as a franchise, and the company has been constantly growing ever since.

Since our first office opened in 1995 we have proven our worth as a system by twice winning Franchise of the Year (2008/2011).
